Biography

Born in Ljubljana, Tea Bajc started her ballet education at the age of ten in the Conservatorium for Music and Ballet Ljubljana. Soon she collaborated with the National Opera and Ballet Ljubljana in performances of La Bayadere and La Sylphide. During the summer vacation of the 2010/2011 season, she attended a ballet seminar of different ballet masters around the world on the island of Vis, Croatia. There, she received a personal invitation from Frederico Olivieri, who is the Director of Accademia Teatro alla Scala (Italy) to their entrance exams. In the 2011/2012 season, at the age of twelve, she successfully passed the entrance exams and enrolled in the Accademia Teatro alla Scala in Milano, Italy. During her studies, she received a special scholarship for talented young dancers. At the age of fifteen, Tea became a first Slovenian member of the Ballet Academy of Vienna State Opera, Austria. She graduated from the Academy in the year 2018 as the first Slovenian dancer ever to do so. During her studies, she collaborated in performances of the Vienna State Opera House, Mariinsky Theater, and Ljubljana Summer Festival. In January 2016 she participated in the prestigious 60th anniversary of the Vienna State Opera Opernball with choreographer Vladimir Malakhov, and was invited again the following year for the Opernball 2017, this time with choreography by Lukas Gaudernak. In October 2016 in Peking, China, she performed a piece by renowned choreographer Evelyn Teri at a ballet gala. She performed the same piece later in Vienna, for the Chinese New Year in 2017. The same year in December, she performed at the world-famous New Year Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in Musikverein. In June 2017 she performed in Vienna at Nureyev Gala, performed every year as the closing performance of the season of the State Opera and Ballet Vienna. It hosts the most renowned dancers of the opera, and features guests from around the world. The same year, she participated in a Dance Arts summer course lead by Russian prima ballerina Liudmila Konovalova. During her studies in Vienna, Tea received financial support from the Slovenian national insurance company Triglav (Mladi upi, Zavarovalnica Triglav, Slovenia). In 2018, the year of her graduation, she performed in the Petipa Gala, where she danced the role of Esmeralda in Fleur de Lys. That summer, Tea received an invitation from choreographer Claudia Sovre to participate in a competition for choreographers, where she interpreted the piece »Where are you?« by Claudia Sovre and received third place. After graduating from the Ballet Academy of Vienna State Opera, she was appointed as a member of the young corps de ballet at the Vienna State Opera. In her first season (2018/2019) she performed in Giselle, Sylvia, Swan Lake, Nutcracker and Fledermaus. During her time in Vienna she has been a regularly appointed dancer for the New Years event in the Vienna Parliament »Rathaus«. Tea was often also a substitute with the Ballet Ensemble of the Volksoper Vienna. With them, she toured in Finland at the Savonlinna Festival. With the beginning of season 2020/2021 she became a member of ballet company at Opera and Ballet SNG Maribor and has danced in Carmina Burana, Nutcracker, Opera Aida, Swan Lake, Giselle, Waterman (at the Ceremony of Slovene presidency at the European Council), Les Noches, Le Sacre du printemps, Peer Gynt, Madame Bovary, Tango, Romeo and Juliet, etc. She has also been performing with the company in China – Hong Kong Arts Festival, Hungary, Germany, Italy and Croatia.
